VR Tutorial for Beginners

PUTTING ON THE VR GOGGLES FOR THE FIRST TIME

If you are new to VR, you will first need to familiarize yourself with the 3D space after putting on the VR goggles for the first time. Within your allotted room space, you can move around and move your hands or controllers to get familiarized with the movements in VR space. Take notice of the dashed walls that pop-up when you get too close or are about to exceed your room space limitations. As you move about for a few minutes, make sure you do not experience any dizziness or vertigo symptoms. You may also want to temporarily remove the goggles to see where you are within your allotted room space and to allow a short break from VR since its your first time.

USING YOUR VR CONTROLLERS

Before you are able to use your controllers, you must familiarize yourself with each button and their functions in VR space, like:  moving/teleporting or jumping; grabbing, throwing or dropping objects; modifying viewing options, accessing menu settings, exiting programs when your done and much more. The more you practice with your VR controllers by using the button features, the easier it will be to maneuver and control your VR avatar. This will also help you improve your hand and eye coordination within VR space.

For more details on VR tutorial for beginners, please visit NoogaSystems VR Center in Chattanooga, TN.

‘Twilight’ VR Ride Coming to Lionsgate Theme Park (by VRScout)

The 237,000-square foot indoor theme park will be located in China.

Santa Monica-based film and TV studio, Lionsgate, is opening theme parks in South Korea and China. And of course it wouldn’t be a proper theme park now days unless there’s VR.

Dubbed Lionsgate Entertainment World, the themed parks are set to debut in the next couple years. As part of a push into location based entertainment internationally, the studio is hoping to grow the Lionsgate brand into a household name and boost film franchises with international audiences.

Next year, Lionsgate will be opening their first indoor theme park in Hengqin, China. According to the LA Times, the 237,000-square foot entertainment complex will feature a VR motorcycle simulation ride based on the Twilightvampire movies. While we know Jacob is a big fan of dirt bikes with Bella in tow, little is known about what visitors will actually be riding or experiencing.

New VR Movie Coming to Theaters March 29!

www.noogasystems.com

Inside the ‘Ready Player One’ OASIS at SXSW

Ready Player One is one of the most anticipated films due to hit theaters on March 29th. Taking place in the year 2045, the world based on Ernest Cline’s best selling novel is bleak. But there’s one place where you can escape to a virtual universe, an immersive world where you can go anywhere, do anything, and be anyone. Welcome to the OASIS.

Located in a massive building in Austin, Texas, Warner Bros. brought an in-person version of the Ready Player One virtual world to life at SXSW. The OASIS at SXSW is everything you’d imagine, packed entirely with 1980’s references from the story.

The experience starts off by walking directly into main character Wade Watt’s room where you are taken into a neon filled hallway that leads into the OASIS. The laser light filled space surrounds you with beautiful sounds, a smattering of 80’s classics from Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Erasure, Grandmaster Flash, Annie Lennox, AH-Ha! All remixed into the ultimate 80’s mixtape.

Best VR headsets 2018: HTC Vive, Oculus, PlayStation VR compared

We’ve seen a virtual reality explosion over the last few months, and now in there’s an amazing variety of VR headsets to choose from, starting at PC and moving all the way down to mobile VR.

But which is the best VR headset out there? Well, for our money it’s the Oculus Rift right now, as better games, Touch controllers and room-scale tracking have come together to make this the most polished high-end VR experience out there.

Big test: Vive, Oculus, PS VR and Windows Mixed Reality compared

But the competition is closer and ever. Vive is also excellent (and still offers the best room scale), while the Sony PlayStation VR sold over a million headsets by summer 2017 thanks to its significantly lower price and the ubiquity of PlayStations ready to run it.

So what are the best VR headsets – and which one should you head out and buy? We’ve put together the definitive selection of the most gob-smackingly awesome devices just waiting to be strapped to your face.

VR: HTC Vive partners with World Economic Forum

HTC Vive has announced that it will be partnering with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to promote the VR/AR for Impact initiative. The pair will be showcasing content at the UN Sustainable Impact Hub at WEF 2018 in Davos.

The initiative was originally launched by HTC at WEF 2017 and looks to use over $10 million to help fund VR and AR content and technologies that will create a positive impact and change in line with the aims of the UN’s sustainable development goals.

HTC Vive will design and create experiences as part of the collaboration, while the UN and WEF will use their considerable influence to champion the use of the technology to educate and empower around the world.

“The challenges our world faces today have never been greater, and humanity needs a clearer understanding and guidance to help solve global issues,” said Cher Wang, Chairwoman and CEO, HTC.

“Unlike any other medium, Virtual Reality is able to immerse the global audience in literally any experience, and can help us learn, empathize and transform the world. VR/AR for Impact is a unique way of driving critical awareness toward problems and solutions facing mankind.”

5 Ways Virtual Reality is Improving Health Care

1. Pain management

There is good scientific evidence that virtual reality (VR) can help relieve pain. The parts of the brain that are linked to pain – the somatosensory cortex and the insula – are less active when a patient is immersed in virtual reality. In some instances, it can even help people tolerate medical procedures that are usually very painful.

Other studies have shown that amputees can benefit from VR therapy. Amputees often feel severe pain in their missing limb, which can be hard to treat with conventional methods, and often doesn’t respond well to strong painkillers like codeine and morphine. However, a technique called “virtual mirror therapy”, which involves putting on a VR headset and controlling a virtual version of the absent limb, seems to help some patients cope better with this “phantom pain”.

2. Physical therapy

VR can be used to track body movements, allowing patients to use the movements of their therapy exercises as interactions in a VR game. For example, they may need to lift an arm above their head in order to catch a virtual ball.

VR: A place to live, work and play

The idea of a single building where you live, work and play may seem very much of the moment, driven by advances in communications technology. But mixed-use developments have been around for as long as mankind. Research has revealed that complex cave systems hosted multiple uses hundreds of thousands of years ago. The Romans built large multi-use complexes across their empire. And during medieval times, people used to manufacture, sell and live in the same building.

It wasn’t until the industrial revolution that industry and trade were separated from homes. Advances in mechanical and agricultural technologies brought on board processes that were highly toxic and dirty, while instances of plague and infestation grew as larger volumes of food were stored to feed a growing urban population. Large-scale industrial automation also required special access and ample spaces to accommodate large and noisy machinery and production systems.

To address these issues, cities around the world began to segregate uses, by either locating different functions in separate buildings, or through the regulatory zoning of land.

Much has changed since industrial times. The gradual move from a “manufacturing” to a “services” era, the growth of specialised fields of expertise and advances in communication have all meant that organisations could operate at a smaller scale, giving more people the opportunity to work from home.

What’s more, sustainability has become an increasingly important consideration over the past few decades. As a growing body of research shows that flexible spaces can be more economically viable and land efficient, mixed use schemes are gaining popularity once more. In some countries, legislation and financial incentives embrace the view that all different aspects of life can successfully be performed at a local level, in a shared place.

But making the switch back to mixed use isn’t quite so simple. Growing population densities in cities, intricate property ownership models and the need to share limited land resources all present a challenge to changing the way people live and work.
